Radio goes on safe / Bose concert / 2002 TT
I posted this question a month or so,but need more ideas. The instrument cluster was replaced about 2 years ago. Since then the the radio will go on safe from a few days to weeks after it has been reset. I'm on my 2nd replacement radio. The dealer says that the previous ones had a fault. I think that they're "lost in space."
The answer to my original post about the problem was to replace the battery. This was done a week ago. I stll had the OEM battery in the car. Today it went on safe after last using it 3 days ago.
Anyone have or had this problem, or ideas to fix it? Appreciate you help.

Same problem here....
Cluster replaced about 2 years ago. Radio goes into safe, only when it's very cold out. lol.
Radio replaced. Basically, they said they cant fix it. Mine only goes out about twice a year. So
I just learned to live with it. Keep your code handy. lol. I miskeyed mine and had to wait 2 hours to try again. That was a drag considering it was before a 1 hour commute. Pretty quite ride that day. lol.
PS. This time I'm really selling it. No really.
I listed it and everything. Next it goes on Ebay.

Concert II head unit is the in-dash CD player. I assume you have this.
This head unit accepts data from the CAN-Bus, like to turn it on, to illuminate the indicators, communicate properly with the changer.
The CAN-bus also goes through the cluster, ECU, etc.
If the CAN-bus is intermittent, or the circuitry in the head unit is flaky, this may manifest itself in thinking the head unit has been disconnected.
I'd get a VAG-COM check on this, or ask your dealer to do a comprehensive scan for all faults.
