Oil Cooler leak..........anyone have experience with plumber's paste?

Earls Lines said to use it instead of tape. one fitting is NOT sealing! i've tried twice today and it just seems to blow thru the stuff. anyone got any ideas? it's on the return to the stock filter location. maybe it has more pressure than elsewhere? but then, wouldn't the system equilize as far as pressure? this is pissing me off!

Both sets of threads have to be clean and dry. Honestly, I think the tape would be better

And, I think that there is a specal teflon tape for use in petroleum applications

not just the white stuff you find in the plumbing section of Lowes/Home Depot.

AN fittings?

Sounds like they're assembled wrong or there's a defect in the hose. Did you make up the lines? I would take the end off, cut an inch off the line and re-assemble.... I've made 2 full sets of lines for coolers and never had one leak yet..

If the defect is the seating surfaces of either the male or female you might want to look at that. AN fittings are designed to seal with little tightening due to the precision mating of the parts. If the leak is there you may have to tape the treads. I would think that would be better than paste, but fixing the root of the problem would be better than both..
