Default I STA. Still have question regarding hardwiring power to XM receiver.

I have a Delphi Myfi receiver. It is a portable unit, not a dedicated car receiver, and it gets it's power through the cigarette lighter outlet. I would like to hardwire the power for less hassle and a cleaner look. I couldn't find anything in the archives, but I don't think many people have this particular unit.

Is there a way to cut the lighter adapter off and connect the wires to some circuit. If so how do I do this? If not, any suggestions on what else I can do?

Thanks for helping a novice.

http://shopdelphi.com/consumers/satradio/myfi/details/specifications/</a

Default You might try this...

Look around on the site to see what else is available. I have a SkyFi in the TT and a MyFi in the Touareg. With the SkyFi I'm just using the cassette adapter and I kludged the lighter adapter by soldering wires to it, wraping it in electrical tape and hooking the wires into power at the fuse panel. I then buried the whole mess behind the center cubby. All that shows is a couple wires snaking up along the ashtray. For the MyFi in the Touareg I used a PIE aux. input adapter that also supplies power.

Hardwired Car Adapter for XM2go Delphi MyFi / Tao / Pioneer Airware

Default Thanks. That's exactly what I need. Now all I need to know is where a 12volt

DC power source is to splice into. I don't have a TT wiring diagram and the only electrical experience I have is changing light fixtures in my house.

Or do you have any pictures of where and how I can hook up to the fuse panel?

Or should I just get a professional to install it? I know TT electrical systems can be tempermental and I don't want to anger mine.

Thanks again.

Default It looks like the kit includes two wire taps...

You just need to find appropriate +12v and ground wires under the console to crimp onto. Not sure where without looking myself. Others here may be able to help with that.

I used some red & black hookup wire, a fuse tap and quick disconnect lug from radio shack and tapped the right side of fuse #8 in the fuse box (top left most fuse). I ran the wires through the console (remove the knee bolster) and fed them into the space behind the center cubby. I have my radar detector and XM tied into this circuit.

Here's a pic of the setup. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the fuse tap. I'll try to take one later and post it.

Default I used a 12V to 6VDC transformer to hardwire the power to the ignition key switch.

I tapped into a switched power fuse in the fuse box, ground it on the brown nut under the steering wheel.

Do not cut your power cord wire and wire directly to a 12V source. You need a transformer to feed it 6V. From your specs link, yours looks like it needs 5V-2A.

I think you need this...
