Default Cayman S test drive yesterday

Yesterday I had a chance to try new Cayman S with both manual and tiptronic transmition.

Car is great to drive, handling is amazing - because of rear wheel drive, when you are on exit of the corners, rear starts sliding and this is great fun. Sound is amazing too. But I was a little disappointed with performances - for almost 300 hp car isnt that fast Ive expected to be. In acclerating car doesnt feel faster than TT.

And if anybody thinking to buy it.. dont buy tiptronic, because car with manual transmition was much better to drive. I hope Porsche will soon introduce DSG into Cayman - that would be great.

My opinion, Cayman S is the best choice if you look Boxster or 911 997 (ofcourse not Turbo or GT3, because those are on different level).

Default my feelings exactly. Gave it the nut and waited for the rush..never came>>

I drove the manual....put it in sport mode.
I would say it's certainly a lot faster than a stock TT....even a chipped TT.
Published 0-60 times range from 5.4 to a low of 4.8 (clueless as to how they got the latter w/o exploding something $$).
Oh yea....the S means they'll come out with another version...a slower one. Ugh

But it is still a lot faster than 90% cars on the road and you can easily lose your driving licence with it

For me, Cayman S with manual transmition is perfect package so far - great design (Porsche), great interior - good comfort, great engine and great performances.

With some mods (exhaust, chip) you can get 35 hp if Ive heard right and than you should smoke basic 911 997

Pricing is just too high IMHO. It should be close to the Boxster, but it's much more.

Default Probably because the power band is so linear - there is no turbo "rush", it just >>>

keeps coming smoothly. Comparing turbos and normally aspirated sixes can be deceiving, sometimes.

Default Seriously, anyone who buys that car (or a 987 Boxster) with a slushbox>>

has zero cred. and needs to be b----slapped, IMHO. It's a waste of a wonderful car. I was walking home past a local restaurant last night and a beautiful black 987 was parked outside top down, because of the great day we had yesterday. I looked inside as I passed, and saw the Tip -started laughing and kept walking...

I think I'd have to opt for the Boxster S over the Cayman just because it's the Roadster, but the Cayman is the most rigid chassis I have ever driven.

Default Well, I sort of agree, but it's only 5K more than the Boxster S, roughly.

It's presumably cheaper to build than the Boxster so Porsche is clearly just charging a premium for it "because they can", but I suppose when you get up in to the 50K+ range anyway, 5 grand probably shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Default Cayman vs Boxster

I think Cayman has higher price because it looks like a "real" Porsche (911) and has a little more power than Boxster.

I like Boxster a lot, 987 looks great, but it is still Boxster and you can compare it for example with Harley Davidson Sportser, which is a intial model and will never has reputation like other Porsche`s (or in this example HD`s) models...
