Hey lets see if we can give some thought for some ideas to help Adam out. He is a great guy and any input from us may make a differance in his life right now. This is from a post he made today a somewhat long read but it describes his situation and needs . Maybe someone here can help or has some ideas or contacts he can use. ///J.T.///

To be honest, I dont know. I am in a poor position right now, in life, and in the shop.
I have not been there very much lately, I am looking for work because being that the shop has not opened, and we are kinda out of money, and it does not look like it is going to open at all - ever, I think that I have to just get a job to save my house.
As some of you know, I have a wife and 3 kids, and they would really like to stay living here, so to make up the difference I have to make some money.
The car wash owes some money in back taxes so there is no income potential there for quite some time for me.
The motorsports portion, if it does not open might take the car wash down with it.
Basically, I spent lots of money over the past 6 months, lots of time of physical labor working my butt off to get this shop open, all to find out that it just might not happen.
We are out of cash, we supposedly had enough, but there were many delays, and rent started piling up, and there were other expenses as well that were not planned I guess. Initially, on paper, it looked as though we had enough cash, and thensome, but then after a couple of stupid delays, it started looking bad, and now it looks even worse than that.
My partner was looking for a 3rd investor, but the guy did not want 3 partners, so I was getting bought out, but I am not sure they can afford to pay to open and buy me out at the same time, so now it looks like the guy is not interested anymore, and we might just loose everything
Unless, someone (REALLY FAST) can come up with about $30k or so, to get this thing off the ground and open. Otherwise, I am out all the cash as the company itself will more than likely go bankrupt.
Yeah, it sux, really bad, but this is reality, not a TV show.
Hopefully, even though I do not have a formal college education, I can still find gainful employment that will pay me at least $35k annually. I am intelligent, well spoken, well traveled and I have owned a few companies in the past.
Resume's emailed upon request.
P.S. I just had what could be a great phone call this morning, it could pay me at the least $50k annually, and I will find out more @ 9 A.M. tomorrow - wish me luck!
I know this is long, and maybe I shared too much, but you did ask - lol (Trying to keep my spirits up!)

No offense but he spent plenty lately on his car....
Part the car out and sell it if he needs the cash that badly.
Oh but i do wish him luck!
Adam, what field were you in before the shop idea came around?

No offense taken
To be completely forthright, I would not be willing to part out the TT, nor sell the car.
Bottom line for me, I already put up the money to open the shop, I should not have to put up anymore, first of all.
Second is the fact that I would not be comfortable putting in more money (even if I did have it as expendable cash flow) into a business that might not open, and more than that, that I might not be a part of anyway.
Field that I was in before all this ..... For about 5 years I owned and operated a web design business - http://www.straightfocus.com - but since then I have been really burned out, and there is WAY too much competition out there in that field.
Before that, I was basically in C/S for about 6 or 8 years.
My wife says to me not too long ago, before the shop idea/opportunity came up, how could I be 40 years old, and not know what I want to do, and to be honest I did not have an answer. I just know that I want to provide for my family. I am not asking to get rich, I just want to make a decent living, and I thought that the shop would have provided that for my family and I, but it looks like I might be wrong.
So, now I am basically looking for anything that will make me about $35k a year, that is what I would need to keep my house.
By the way, I have to say, if I ever become stinking rich, I am totally buying "got psi" a few new toys - Thanks a ton for trying to help!
It really is embarrasing to be in the position I am in, at this stage of life, but I know that being optomistic and keeping it real are what I need to focus on, and I am confident that it will work out somehow someway.

Here's my take.
I wanted things to change for the better in my life. First thing to go? Mods and car. Yeah it was tough, tough as ****, but now I can move forward with my personal life goals and get to do more of what I want to do and not worrying about painting a panel, or buying tires, or something else. There's always room to sell a depreciating asset.
Second, perhaps get a temporary job at Home Depot or something similar. They have great benefits and insurance and pay well (somewhere around $9 an hour to start I think). It would be something good until you find exactly what you want to do.
Food for thought. Good luck to you and your family.

Best of luck, Adam. I was looking forward to seeing the shop get up and running, but sometimes the unexpected gets in the way.

Adam,
I don't think there is any reason for you to be embarrased. The main thing is you are looking for help from a good group of guys and I'm sure you'll get your break from one of them.
I'll keep my eyes open for some opportunities, however in the mean time, check out www.indeed.com for jobs.

I think thats some good advice (and it makes sense with Ryan knowing a thing or 2 about money) I have a similar situation in that I want a house, but I have 2 cars the eat up a good portion of my monthly money. I am thinking of selling the e30, which I really dont want to do, but unless I want to be living with the p's for another few years, its my best option. In that aspect it comes down to priorities (ok, maybe thats obvious). Maybe I'm just rambling, but I'm just trying to relate some of my own recent experiences and thoughts.

Ryan and Tim both come up with good points, and if it came down to it I would sell my TT, but only if I HAD to do it.
Regarding a temp job, I am already signed up with a few, I just have not gotten any work yet, but I am confident that I will, but that is only a temporary solution obviously.
The BEST news I got today (so far) is that I got a call this morning from someone whom I sent a resume, and he wants me to come in tomorrow morning for an interview. Could be a GREAT job, pay is based on sales (which is great for me) and I would be selling waterproofing for a company called Everdry.com out in Downers Grove. The guy that I talked to stated that his guys make on average $75k annually, and the lowest guy is @ $50k and his top guys are in the 6 figure income range, I told him that I can be one his top guys!
Wish me luck!
P.S. That would mean that my wife might be able to quit working, and I would still have mod money after feeding the kids - lol
While there's always Monster.com and others, I think you're posting and thinking in the right space. There's a lot of very committed, talented, and caring people here, and still loan money to be found for startups. But it does sound like a great lead with the sales job! I am also confident that you'd be excellent at that, and it would suit your needs and amazing personality very well!
I'll keep thinking about it too, as I'm also looking at jobs at the moment!
Best of luck, and hoping to see you and UNeek at another TT event before long.

If the guy does not want three partners, then one or more of you can convert your investment into debt, take a lien on the business, and get paid out if/when there is available cashflow; in addition, get an employment contract that ensures you some income for a while (24 months?). You're in a weak position right now, and it's going to be painful, but if the business makes sense, and it only needs a bit more equity, then that is what makes the most sense.
