Default Will I be utterly dissappointed if I get FWD?

I guess I've bought into all of my car club guy's cars... basically, Quattro is the only way to go. I'm llooking at an 2000 TT with everything, great shape, only 49k miles, but FWD.

I drive a FWD 1996 A4, and.. Quattro would be a nice upgrade... but, in a car like the TT, how much does a difference does it make?

Default You won't be disappointed - FWD is lighter... Only caveat would be...

if you love in an area where you get ice/snow - quattro comes in handy... Quattro is FWD most of the time anyway...

Default You won't be...add a chip and it will seem like a rocket compared to your 12V 2.8>>>

but you really couldn't be disappointed any way, since you'd have no Quattro TT to compare it to. That being said if oyu don't need the all-weather capability, why carry around the extra weight for what will then just be a very occasional performance advantage - i.e., when you are really pushing to the limits? FWD TT has an advantage int hat many VW bolt-on 1.8T mods will apply too, incuding a broader range of full turbo-back exhausts, among other things.

Default Only you can answer that. I have had three TT's all Quattro...

So, I am not able to comment about the handling of a FWD TT.

Regardless of what shape it is in, or the mileage at 49,000, I would recommend asking a knowledgeable person like TTSchwing what to do about changing water pump, timing belt and timing tensioner on a year 2000 model car. It may be old enough to do the timing belt on time and age, regardless of mileage.

You won't miss quattro. You'll miss the 45 hp.

Default I like carrying around the extra weight for when I actually use it

When the car is approaching the limits is when I really want the extra grip and for me and the roads I drive regularly it's totally worth it.

Default Agreed, assuming one buys a TT for its HP... >>>

I didn't.

That being said, doesn't mean I didn't want more than 180, though... :-)
