Default Test drove a TT 3.2 Quattro DSG Coupe. I guess this is best TT on offer?

Greetings all for the first time.

Went for a spin the other week and first impressions were good.
Love the DSG and the way it changes so quickly and with a degree of smoothness. Compared to the Alfa with their version of an automatically controlled manual clutch, it eats it.
The throttle response is good and its good to drive a car that does not have that dreaded turbo lag.

But I have to admit that the ultimate power and acceleration was not quite up to the mark that I was hoping for.
After looking around to see what options I have to improve this it seems that there is not much on offer for this model as upgrades or mods. In any case from what I gather if you do manage to poke too much torque into the DSG (I guess the design limit is 300HP??) you run the risk of damage and thats if you can get past the electronic torque limiters/sensors.
Alternatives seems to be to stick a jumbo sized turbo on the smaller 1.8 turbo model. That would worry me. Lets see now, one big upgrade today and one new engine later.

So for now I can wait for a new version out later this year for the same again model with same again power or wait an eternity for a V6 turbo version in 2008, assuming there will be one. Were the heck they would even stick one in that squashy engine bay beats me.

What do you think?
Or do I hear a Porche calling me? Urgh.
Nar...

cheers.

Default get a 225 and start modding

since it sounds like you will want to be modding, the 225 is the way to go imho.

Both cars are quick in their own way, and can be improved with modifications, particularly the 1.8T. But neither is really meant for "ultimate power and acceleration". It's a beautiful design package with some sport there, and untapped potential. Perhaps you'll need a Stage 3 version or HPA conver$ion. You can search around for that if you're willing to spend the bucks. An 800+ HP TT is out there too, for that ultimate power and acceleration...

Default The trade-in on the Cayman will be better than the TT towards the 2008 model...

But maybe you'll won't want to give up the p-car.

Default though that won't provide "the ultimate power and acceleration" either.

by report, Caymans are nice, but with a smooth power band that doesn't feel faster than modded 225's here to those that have driven them. Maybe it is, of course, the smooth powerbands can be deceivingly quick. But I think Mr. 4by4 may be barking up the wrong tree with either car stock if he's just looking for acceleration. On the other hand, either car would obviously be a nice total overall package.

Default Not at all, that's why I was surprised to hear from others that it doesn't feel all that fast.

Guess it's all subjective. I'm sure it actually feels pretty quick. I would say "wait til I drive one", but I'm not going to, so I guess I'll have to rely on the subjectivity of others. I still think your car and mine look better than the Cayman. Love the hard top!

Trouble is the price gap from a 3.3TT to a Cayman is rather large. Like 40% extra.

Default 3.2 TT is a sweet ride. Go for it.

I have a 3.2 TT and love it. It has the nice body kit and better brakes and I love the DSG. Did you try it in Sport mode ?? That's what i use when I'm on the track. Put it in sport mode and you look like a hero. It does everything for you. I'm doing some upgrades on my brakes (pads, s.s lines, fluid.) Blistein PSS- 9 system is being put on right now. It has really RS4 wheels already. StreetWerks in working on Turbo Kit for it. Turbo Kit on my car in 2007. Installed is about $10,000. You can buy 3.2 TT stock and enjoy for what is and do high dollars mod's later. Cayman is a bad *** car!!! I love Porsche's. I need the back seat's for my daughter and golf clubs.
