Default Misfire between 2400 and 3200 rpm

I recently started to get a small misfire just above 2400 rpm. It's felt in all gears but most in 3rd and 4th gear when accelerating. Just as the boost starts to come on I get two or three small misfires which then stop after about 3200rpm.

Any ideas what it can be. I didn't spot anything obvious when running vag-com logs.

It's a 2000 225TTC

Default how good are your plugs and what gap are they running? Misfire under boost just means you don't

have enough spark energy to make it through the spark gap. From an electrical standpoint, this is caused by gaps too wide, coil wire (the resistive stub underneath the coil) has too high of a resistance, ignition coil weak or malfunction, and poor power/ground to the ignition coil.

You should see misfire counts with VAG.

Default You need to pull the codes, it may not be a miss as there are problems

that can cause similar symptoms. You could very well have a bad MAFS.

Default As mentioned, either plugs or MAF....>

Sounds like a lean stutter (MAF), but it could be funky plugs or coil paks..

Default I'll check the MAF and plugs...>

but is there anyway to check the coil packs?

Jim TT, which codes should I be pulling? I ran a general scan on vag-com and nothing other than an alarm was triggered fault came up.

Default Here is the deal. MAFS start to go south and don't always through a DTC until they really get bad,

...this has happened to me. I had the same issue you mention for about five weeks before I got any fault codes. I doubt the plugs are the problem, ingnition problems don't kick in @ 3000rpm the clear up at @4000rpm. Keep driving the car and see what happens; at some point you will get a CEL and codes if the MAFS is bad. I keep spare MAF sensors in my parts supply, you can get them from ECS and they have them at various price points with some very inexpensive. You could simply pop in a new one and see if that corrects the problem, even if it does not you are still better off having a back up MAFS in you garage as they do go bad.

Default I'll start by unplugging the MAF and go for a quick spin and see if that changes anything...>

If it's the MAF then I'd expect to see some difference / change.

I may get a spare MAF anyway as you suggest. I'll check the plugs anyway just to make sure.

Id expect it to make some difference if the MAF is the problem. I may get a spare MAF too as you suggest.

I'll still check the plugs this weekend just to make sure.
