Default If I replaced my original water pump with a metal impeller water pump during my first timing belt

change, do I need to replace it again at my second timing belt change? Or should the first replacement pump still be OK?

Default Well the reason it needs to be replaced in the first place is because the OEM pump has a plastic

impeller, which is the part that breaks. The replacement has a metal impeller, which is designed NOT to break.

If I don't need to replace my metal-impeller water pump, I'm not going to buy another one.

Default I'd be concerned about bearing failure which has also been reported to be the cause...

of broken tbs. might as well replace while in there. cheap insurance.

Default The shop mechanic in Mill Valley told me to always replace water pump with TB replacement.>

The metal impeller is a step up. However, mode of failure can be the shaft and bearing, so best to replace it each time the timing belt is done.

Hmmm, didn't know that. If this is true then I might as well replace it again.

Default Wrong, in part>>

the water pump seal also wears... in fact, mine failed at 57K. It's a wear item and should be replaced when the t-belt is done. Seeing as it's only $60 I can't imagine not doing it.
