Default New Battery draining...>

Alternator was checked out fine. Any other things to check? It's not my TT.

Default working on the same thing here, supposedly not the (aftermarket) stereo..

and there's some question as to whether the battery might have a bad cell or something, but mine's an optima yellow (deep cycle for the stereo, and long hours playing it while detailing the car).
I'll post something if we figure mine out.

Default I replaced a Red Top Optima before...>

in less than a year, so it's a definite possibility.

Default oh yeah, there have been a couple notable forum failures of optimas..otherwise great though.

how do you tell if it's the battery vs. something else though, I guess that's my (clueless) question. Is it draining somewhere, or is it just not charging?

Default Autozone would have to make a diagnosis of a bad cell(s)..>

Like in my case in the past. I'm not sure other than checking circuits individually what can be done. :-(

Test the battery first, but a bad cluster can do this.....

Default I'd do a sleep current draw test...

disconnect (+) battery cable. Use a digital ammeter in line, connect the postive lead from the ammeter to the postive terminal of the battery. Connect the negative lead of the ammeter to the postive battery cable.

Key on (DO NOT TRY TO START ENGINE)for a few seconds and shut off. Remove key get out and lock the car using remote. After a few minutes the amp draw should drop to about 30 milliamps or lower. If it does not drop you are looking at a current drain somewhere. You can keep the drivers door open and simply lock the door latch to fake closing the door. Now you can start removing fuses to isolate where the drain is coming from.
