I initially tried painting the bulbs with stained glass paint (available at crafts stores like Michael's, color = paprika). It's made to withstand heat (they tell you to bake it), and it did not flake off in my housings. The picture shows both options. They look kinda reddish in my crappy phone cam pics, but they flash a deeper amber.
Taking my lights apart yet again, I've decided to go with the covers, but paint them with the bulb paint. I really like the darker, richer orange after the paint. Your call. The covers are available at places like AutoZone, and yes, probably Walmart too. The covers pretty much just pop off.

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
Well, the housings that I modded (from the B6 S4) won't fit. You might be able to fit the lights themselves, which are PIAA P-1000XT's, or better yet, the tiny Hella Micro DE (xenon$ or not). JackTTar used to have the DE's mounted on his. The issue for the stock TT grill openings is that they're not tall enough for these housings, but some of the more compact grills (1 bars) common in some of the current/recent VW's and Audis may well fit the 1.8T bumper. I just spent a lot of time looking at what was out there before I found one that would work, I'm sure you'll find one too, just look around, and cut one to fit.
My lights are driving lights, as opposed to fog lights. Think "auxillary headlights" that shine straight ahead, vs. fog lights which just hit the corner of the car so you can see the white line on the edge of the road in fog (relatively useless, IMHO.) Plus you already have the factory fogs (well, those are beyond useless). So unless you constantly drive in fog, driving lights are going to give you more light on a consistent basis. You should kind of treat them like brights, though, and turn them off for oncoming traffic. Anyway, they just add more light for the dark country roads and deer around here, which is what motivated me to get them in the first place.
Have fun...
