Soft-Top Motor Problem

Hi, my soft-top motor will put the top down, but will not put the top up. It makes some whirring noises, raises the top about six inches, then the top falls back down. I have to use my super-human strength to pull the top up. Anyone have any ideas of things to try before taking it in?

How much would it cost to have this fixed? It's an annoyance, but if we're talking $1k+ I might just have to live with it.

I had a 1953 Ford Convertible that did the same thing. I never did fix it. I just lived with the problem for the two years I had the car.

Sounds like a hydraulic leak. MAJOR pita. Are you under warranty?

I am out of warranty...2001 with 66k miles or so.

is it possible to by-pass the motor function,meaning i had a 240sx

convert, on the motor there was a shut-off valve. then with some human strength was able tooo puuttt uuppp top manually.
