Default Okay, so I thought I had an oil leak... (link fixed)

And now I know I do. Can anyone guess what is actually leaking and how serious it may be based on these pictures?

I just came out of warranty 2 wks ago, and I'm kicking myself for not checking this earlier...

Any insight is helpful. Thanks again.

Default There is a somewhat common leak on the 1.8 engine..

I had it.. and if I remember correctly it was a "cam seal"? I can look at the paperwork when I get home if someone else can't confirm.

Default it may just be from your filter...

might not have had a good seal from the last change. I'd change the oil and filter and clean off the belly pan and engine pretty well and check it again later.

Default Also check to see if the oil plug is leaking. When I had the oil changed last time...>>

the threads came out with the plug. The dealer used a Heli-coil and it is holding for now.

This seems to be common on the 1.8t.

Default May not be it but check your drain plug...

See if you have a small drip or a little ring of oil around the crush washer. Is it torqued down to 22lb-ft?

I have similar stain and noticed that my plug was coming loose. Found out my drain hole threads are stripped. Oil pan is soft metal and apparently its not that uncommon for an uncareful mechanic to strip the threads.

Fortunately the OEM drain plug is short so even stripped there are enough threads left that a longer Mercedes plug can be used as stop gap until the pan is replaced.

Default Well, there is this, but I thought the sludge from higher up was causing it...

Default yes, that CV is def leaking too.

you should try getting actual CV plier and tightening it, or getting a new clamp. should take care of it. it will probably tighten down and seal back up, but if you need a clamp shoot me an email, i have some extra...audi doesn't have a part no. for it.

CV boot pliers
