like 3,4, or 5 mm i'm trying to squeeze in some 245/45's for autocrossing and they will rub inside the fenders on the frame (the 225 hoosiers already do slightly) i only need a few MM of clearance to be set but i don't want to buy wheel bolts if i don't have to b/c quite frankly they would be expensive. i have two sets of wheels with different seats on them and since i don't want to swap spacers on and off 3 times a month i'd rather just leave them on which means that i would need 32 new wheels bolts which is a couple of hundred dollars. however i obviously don't want to leave anything for chance and there may not be any extra room on those wheel bolts.

Default If you want to play, you gotta pay... Elmer Langren 1976...>>

Buy the bolts. Autocross puts cornering pressure on the wheel assembly. You really don't want to be doing that with short bolts.

Default As long as you can get 7 or 8 full turns on a bolt, then you'll be fine without longer bolts.

I needed longer bolts for my 15mm front spacers. I forget how long they are, but obviously, this is specific to the spacer width and my wheel's dimensions.

Default I think the 3mm are ok with stock bolts. Though if you're running stock wheels normally...

You need new bolts anyway, since most aftermarket wheels have conical seats & Audi wheels have radiused seats.

Default I think you'd be looking at <$30 for longer lugs...

But I can understand why you'd want that scratch for beer. ;-)

I would too.

Default parts4vws.com

And they've also got some of the best customer service I've ever dealt with.

Can't say anything *close* to that nice about the alternative. ;-)

Default i wouldn't be so sure of that....it would amount to about 2 turns or so. i would opt to

get the larger bolts...don't mess with it since you're dealing with something that holds those wheels onto your car!

Default i meant to say, 3mm = about 2 turns i would think....

so let's say 6 turns total with stock....minus the 3mm (2 turns) = 4 total. still scary IMHO.
