Default Finally buying a TT

I am finally getting my first TT, It's a 2000 Quattro denim blue with 17,000 miles. The bad thing is the 2000 model came with only 180hp, so I would like to increase that. What are some suggestions you would recommend for under 500.00. I am also planning to change the factory wheels to some type of black or gunmetal wheels, any suggestions and or pictures would be great. Thanks everyone, I look forward to being on here and learning.

Default Power increase is two part - chip/exhaust/intake and then Stage III with a bigger turbo

and full exhaust. You could opt to go to a larger K04 turbo - but IMO - it's alot of work for minor gains.

Default For exactly $500 the first and most important upgrade is a "Chip"......

It has the biggest WOW factor of any performance mod you could make. It completely transform the car. This is a "must have", any others are "nice to have".<ul><li><a href="http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/ecu_upgrade_tt.html">http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/ecu_upgrade_tt.html</a</li></ul>

Don't forget suspension, a critical part of the mix.

Default Welcome. Search is step one for learning...>>>

There are numerous discussions about chips and there are fotki's that show all colors and types of Audi TT wheels.

There are not that many mods available for under $500. To get chip and intake and exhaust and rear valence would be more. TTschwing has intake. Inquire of him what is his shipped price.

Default Welcome and enjoy. I would recommend driving the car stock for the time being. The car has very

few miles, which is good. Your TT will adapt to your driving style through adaptive software, which is very cool. You need to learn about the car's characteristics to determine what you most want to change, and I doubt that you know that at this point.

It may also have some niggling little problems or quirks that you need to take care of and you'd be better off dealing with that first.

All of the people who responded to your post have helped me in the past. They are patient and helpful but don't abuse their generousity. atticism is right, there is a wealth of info in the forum that you can access with the search function.

For the time being, hang out here, read a lot and ask questions about the language.

Mostly, get out and enjoy your car. It's pretty sweet.

My $.02

Default ditto da NeTT, & change TB before mods. (it's 60k miles or 5 years - whichever comes first)

The TT uses an interference engine. My TB broke a a couple weeks ago at 79.5k miles sitting at idle at a stoplight. The engine was torn down last week. At least four bent rods, head damage, damaged pistons, seals, and not to mention the water pump, tensioner, plus all the other doodads and doohickies that need to be replaced. The final bill isn't written yet - but after the fact will be near $8k or maybe over. (4k for the head alone)

It would be a shame if your TB broke at 25k miles because of age. I have a little peace of mind because my extended warranty is in play - but spending $1k to replace a belt is better than $10k to replace an engine.

Although ... I will admit that I jokingly asked about the possibility of swapping my 180 for 225. =) (was just joking... sorta)

Sooo.... It's a sweet ride. Get the oil changed every 5k (10k by the book) miles with a good sythetic (high temps in the 1.8T require a good engine oil) and keep your eyes out for bears.

And don't forget to smile when you're at a stoplight and you see my wife, without her TT - longingly looking at your ride.

Default What effect does a chip have on the lifespan of engine/parts. and,

if a chip does hardly anything to hurt the lifespan of engine and parts then how come the car doesn't come with more powerful mapping from the factory?

thanks in advance
