paging stilljester: How are those brakes coming, I just got back from VIR and I
Other than that (and a samco blowing off during a run) I had a blast. It was my first track event and it was soo much fun. I had one instructor comment that my car had incredible grip (on the wet skidpad) and apparently he was impressed enough that he was telling other students while he was in their cars. (that grip saved my butt when I didn't brake hard enough for oak tree once, that was almost an off-track excursion)
I'm looking forward to the next one and plan on havign much more serious brakes... And a separtae set of Fliks (many cars with Flik lex's at teh track) with some Falken Avenis 615's. Much better to smoke $110 tires than my 225/40-18 Potenza SO3's. The SO3's were amazing, but they did take one heck of a beating...
Then I went and got Stoptechs and Motul brake fluid and you could just beat the hell out of them and be OK.
Folks need to remember that just adding slotted or cross drilled rotors are not really brake upgrades, just prettier. Even moreso, adding a much more aggressive pad can cause alot more heat and ruin the brake rotors pretty quickly.
Glad you had fun.
By the way, I ran a session with Mike Levitas behind the wheel. (Mike is a pro driver whose #36 Porsche placed 3rd overall in this weekend's Grand Am race with Randy Pobst behind the wheel.) He was totally impressed with the TT. It's stock except for the Stoptechs and Toyo RA1's. He LOVED it -- said it handles as well as his new Cayman S!
Another highlight for me:
One guy had an S4 that was pushing 400+ horsepower. He could run away from everybody on the straights, but his line and technique were pretty rough. In the last session, he started right behind me -- and I darned near lapped him! Just goes to show you: even on a horsepower-friendly track like VIR, handling and driver skills will beat horsepower.
Anyways, I really owe Dan for helping me out with the spacers. He also helped out with tech inspections, which was much appreciated.
