Default to those following my broken car saga... turns out it actually wasn't a failed strut bushing/bearing

just talked to my mechanic, and he said that some big crossbody strut member (i forgot the name of the part already) that has 4 bolts to attach to the suspension and steering column or something is unbolted... apparently 2 of the 4 bolts were completely out, and the other 2 of the 4 bolts were loose and on their way out. if i had lost the other two bolts, the car would have essentially fallen apart... no steering, suspension would have collapsed, etc.

YIKES.

time to find out if this is a part that would have been removed/loosened when my new clutch & flywheel were installed last week... i might be placing a rather angry phone call to the shop that installed those for me.

so i guess ordering parts at tt-west wouldn't have helped me out after all...

Default Subframe?

Yeah, that would cause all sorts of damage if it came loose.

Default It is very possible that they didn't put in new bolts when reinstalling the subframe....

and those are really one use only - although some reuse them.

That's REALLY scary to think you drove all that way with just two subframe bolts....

Default yeah, i'm kinda freaked out about it right now...

my (new) mechanic is looking into whether or not that would have been removed/replaced when the clutch was installed last week. he said he thinks there's 2 ways to go- from the top and from the bottom... if it went in from the bottom, this part had to come off... grrrrrrrr.

i'll get all the details tomorrow when i pick the car up... i just got this from a brief phone call as my guy was leaving his shop today.

That is really scary. What if that came loose at speed? Glad you made it home OK, Kurt.
