R compound tyre break in question......
as you may remember, my wife bought me some R compound tyres for autocross for my b-day. Prior to this I was borrowing Ed's R compound tyres as he wasn't using them at the time.
Well, now I've got my Hoosier A3S05 tyres mounted on my stock fat fives. I noticed they didn't offer heat cycling on the web site and it doesn't really have a whole lot of break in tips on the site.
My question is: should I put them on the car prior to Sunday's autocross and kind of scuff them a bit lest they be a little slick? Also, if I'm primarily going to be doing Solo with them, do I need to worry about heat cycling?

The first time a competition tire is used is the most important. During that run, its tread compound is stretched, some of the weaker bonds between the rubber molecules will be broken (which generates some of the heat). A tire that has been heated up through use and then cooled down has experienced one heat cycle. This often results in a slight hardening of the tire compound, which can make the tire perform at a high level for a longer period of time. See Scrubbed Tires.
