Send the car to body shop to repaint just the roof rail ?
All,
Brought in the car to show them the bubbles under the rail. They agree to fix it. They want me to drop off the car so they can send it to the body shop. I told them that they can simply order a new rail from Audi, have it painted Avus, and I can come in and they can just swap the rails...or they can just remove my rail and send it to the shop..but this has fallen on deaf ears.
I just know something is going to go wrong somewhere (the shop will ding/scratch the car, they are going to overspray, they are going to simply paint over the strip, etc). My car is coming off lease and warranty in one month, and am planning to buy it, so I don't want any screw ups at this juncture.
I am grateful that they have accepted to fix the problem, but I can tell them what and how I want it done? Has anyone who has had this problem dropped off their car to have the strip repainted?

My 2002 TT had rails replaced on both sides...>>>
Sonnen in Marin ordered the rails, had them painted and called me when they were ready to remove the old ones and install the new ones.
Your dealer should be able to do the same.
