Troubleshooting help - Car will not idle

Had a bad MAF. Replaced it and when I started it up it idles for about 10 seconds and dies. Unplugged the MAF and the car will idle and run. Thought I had a bad (new) MAF so I swapped the old one back in. Same thing. Car will not idle with the MAF plugged in, unplug it and it runs but seems to make a high pitched whooshing sound.

My best guess is I created a vacuum leak somewhere when I R&R'd the MAF. Anyone else had a similar sympton? If so what was the cause?

Does it 'surge'?
Also could be injectors, and I'm sure, a host of other things.

If you had a **** you could blame me!
I would try Re-setting the ECU (Pull the power). Might have to do with the current state of your fuel maps....A reset will Zero them out...

i have this issue right now also. I have not figured how to fix it....

but i did have like 2 vacume leaks that i have fixed so far... but this is pissin me off also, so i feel your pain

Finally got around to looking at the TT this weekend. Self induced problem...

The wooshing sound was air being sucked directly into the turbo intake. The samco intake hose popped off when I was wrestling with the MAF side of the hose. I guess my original install wasn't the best or the hose/clamp relaxed over the years.

Anyway, I had forgotten what a PITA it is to get behind the engine to the turbo and work by feel. All back together and running fine.

The MAF obviously told the computer that there was VERY little air flowing into the intake. The computer was probably very confused.
