Default Question on limp mode

up until last week my car was mostly stock with the exception of an intake. then last week i got GIAC 93/100oct. last night i added a few gallons of toluene to try out the race program. after intial start up i felt timming try and retard itself, i figured its the old 93 oct still in the lines. after about a mile it cleared up.

but later on that night when boosting i felt the boost back off at about 4500 RPM's. but it didnt do it all the time though. soon after, it cleared up without me turning off the car or resetting ECU.
was this light limp mode. or the ECU simply adapting to new maps?
what are symptoms of limp mode? both light and full on limp?
when hitting limp mode how do you get out of it?
simply turn on/off the car? or reset ECU?

i dont have a vag com or boost guage yet to monitor.

Default Nope...>

Sounds like classic heat soak though.....More boost/power= more heat= timing and or throttle retard....

(No free lunch!)

Limp is an instant drop in boost from wherever you were to about 5 PSI. Feels like hitting a wall. Since it's a protective measure, it means something reported by one or more of the sensors is bad. Could be any one of a dozen things that could trigger it. Pulling the code with a reader or VAG will tell you what it was.

Default I don't mean to be hating....but why, why , why would you do that without a boost gauge?

Do you like the idea of expensive repairs? I wouldn't even get a chip without a boost gauge, let alone try race programs. Honestly, I wouldn't touch any modified Audi without a vag tool either. I just don't understand....
Again, don't mean to pick on you, but please go and buy a boost gauge and a vagtool

Default i wouldve bought a VAGCOM if i owned a laptop. believe me boost guage is next on my list.

i really dont think chipping without a guage puts me in great danger. i dont abuse the car that much. and you could really sense when the car if a little off. but i totally agree. i need one! and that is definetely next on my list.
