Default I think i'm in love....

how foolish would I be to buy an old Triumph bike? I've always wanted an old school cafe racer... have been mostly been looking at old Honda CB550's, CD750's, Norton's, Triumph's....

Can anyone give me some advice based on experience on what it's like to own one of these? This one looks freakin' awesome!

1969 Triumph TR6R. Boyer Ignition, Mikuni carb, Kenny Dreer custom seat.

It'd be cool just to look at, let alone ride.

Default they are cool as hell...

but an old bike is just that, an old bike. It will need constant attention. If you aren't much of a mechanic yourself or are impatient, it's probably not for you. If you want the old school look, but new parts, check out the new Triumph Bonneville.

Default yeah, buy yourself a set of whitworth wrenches and a box of bandages...

I had a couple of these and yes they are sweet. I still have a BSA 441 victor which I rode trials with back in the late 60s early 70s.
those were the days.....
The days when British bikes ruled the roads of the world.
Then something strange happened.....
Those pesky Japanese built motorcycles which actually worked and didn't require two hours of maintenance for every hour of ride time.

Default If its been cared for it shouldn't be too bad to own.

Based on the pictures and description you gave it looks like the bike has been well treated. British bikes are prone to dripping oil so if you buy it I would keep a pan or piece of cardboard under it. The first thing I would recommend looks like its already been taken care of, the ignition system. You would want to replace the points with an electronic ignition and the Boyer Ignition has solved that problem for you. The Mikuni carb is also a plus. They can be a little finicky at times but they are very basic machines that can be a lot of fun to work on. Plus not a lot of body work!
Good luck!

I know how british stuff doesn't run great very often, like to drip stuff out of the bottom and need lots of love! Gotta love 'em tho!
