gorTT - found in a search... ever find the cause of that vibration at idle with A/C on?
I'm having the same problem, was it a symptom of low referigerant? TIA
heres the post..

Minor cycling vibration - had the dealer look at it, and 'couldn't find anything'... But - it bothers ME - even though subtle - to the point I'd rather run w/the air off (will be a real problem when it heats up here). Someone here once responded it was (could be) a symptom of low referigerant

Had this problem twice...1st time new compressor fixed it >>
now the car is well out of warrantee I'm basically ignoring the noise until something breaks. The performance of the AC doesn't seem to be adversely affected. A helpful guy at Audi said they can order in a generic brand compressor (same manufacturer as the Audi one) but basically half the price.

If it doesn't get cold, I'd suspect the drivers side radiator fan first >
that's a common symptom, and hard to identify. There's an AC readout you can use to check the engine coolant temp - if it's high, like 105 or so by inference the fan is possibly out.

Ha! My engine tanked lask May, a month or 2 after I wrote that - hydrolocked >
trying to drive through some curb-deep water in Houston - my dumb - so no, I didn't find the problem; don't have it anymore either though. Did the timing belt and a KMD pulley on the rebuild as well as some other items, so really can't say what the cause was. The ac does contribute some 'normal' vibration of course, just not the oscillating type I experienced.
