Oh no, ANOTHER chip thread.
I just ordered my vent boost gauge and a new DV so I think I'm ready for a chip. The car is running great and I have the new clutch broken in well.
Being in Kansas City I have two choices.
GIAC
or
APR
Imagine Auto does GIAC
Imagineauto.com
Bob Hindson Racing does APR.
bobhindsonracinginc.com
Now, with that said I'm wanting obviously the best reliability and best perfomance. From reading dyno charts off GIAC and APR's webpages I'm seeing these results:
GIAC: 182hp and 206tq
APR: 209hp and 245tq
Am I missing something here or reading something wrong? That's a big jump..
I see all these guys going with GIAC but I'm not sure why.
I hope this thread doesn't flop, this could be an aid to all the other noobs like myself who need to know the details behind these chips and what the REAL WORLD results are.
A couple things I'm curious about
What are the REAL wheel HP numbers on a stock TT with a 91 programed APR or GIAC ECU.
What company do YOU have or reccomend. And... do you have any information I need to know before I dive into this on tuesday?
You guys have been amazing help so far, thanks again!
i went with giac 93 program because people i know said it was a more agressive programing. replace your maf with a good oem maf before the chip (found that to be a problem in my situation). i spike 24-25 w/o BM & hold 20
i think they are all simmilar software. but as i said, im no expert
GIAC has a less refined 'edge' to it... feels like you have a mod worth the money you've spent, and kicks in just a bit more sharply than APR.
Note: I had GIAC first and for a bunch of reasons (mostly 'grass is greener' stuff), I switched to APR. I had two major issues with the programming and workmanship of the APR switchover. Kinda left a bad taste in my mouth, but nevertheless, many people here swar by APR.
Were I to do it all over again, I'd stick with the rawness of GIAC and not have done the switch.
My $0.02...
FWIW, I blew out my MAF and DV within minutes of reprogramming. The tip about the new/remanufactured MAF install would have served me well.
It is important to know that there is cause and effect with your power plant. Take that into consideration when you chip.
FWIW the place where I had the programming done is a GIAC and APR dealer and couldn't say enough nice things about GIAC's customer service. In fact, there was a minor issue loading the software and the dealer literally called Garrett with GIAC from the shop floor (I think he's the owner) and worked through the issue.
That being said, I think you can't go wrong with either...

Love the speed stalk programing, but usally stay with the 93 or stock when going to the Dealer for service, 91 seems MUCH tamer than 93 and Ive never used the 100. Cant seem to find the gas in western NC where its either 87, 89, or 93 at the pump. Just my 2 cents BTW they are really easy to deal with, as was my original dealer GMP.
