Default TT Owners PLEASE AVISE

Hi,
I'm purchasing a 2001 TT 225HP Roadster with 38K miles and the premium package stuff from a used car dealer...I'm paying $299/month for 72 months, but for $60/month MORE the dealer is offering me THEIR CNA warranty allowing me to take the car to any Audi dealer for 4 years or 48,000 miles (again, the $60 more is for four years or 48000 miles)...Should I get it?

Doesn't cover normal wear and tear and I still haven't asked if there is a deductible, but I'm wondering what you all think? At this point, the car has been inspected and is free of any probs (the dealer is my uncle-so I'm OK in terms of trust)...But after having read through another forum about TT issues (i.e. cluster problems, xenon light issues, etc), I'm kind of freaking out. FYI, I drive maybe 10 miles day max on the average (rarely go on the freeway). But I don't want to spend thousands of dollars every time something goes wrong! Should I shop for a warranty in general? I've never owned an Audi, don't know much about their quirks other than oil burning...But I've been forewarned about going warranty-less...Would anyone recommend any particular warranty? Thanks for your advice!

UPDATE: I'm no math wiz...But maybe I'm making a numbers mistake? OK, I'm getting the car for 20K. Shipping would be $1000 but I'm paying 500.
I'm financing 17K (includes freaking CA registration fees and taxes and shippin). At 6.99%, I pay $299 with NO WARRANTY over 72 months. WITH the warranty, I pay $360 (4 years or 48,000 miles)...I'm a missing something here? Trying to post pics of the car too, but not working out!!

Default Whoa...that's $4300....>>>>

One of the MOST expensive extended warranties I've heard of. If you absolutely need this peace of mind, the cost is usually around $2500-3000. Shop around.

Default do the math. $60x72 months is....

$4320??? that's crazy.

you can get the car certified and/or buy an extended warranty from outside sources for MUCH cheaper than that. do a forum search on the subject for better answers.

I bought my 2001 from an Audi dealer and they put a 2 year Audi Certified Warranty on it. I think this is a better way to go on a 5 year old car. Mine has 48,000 on it. The warranty was not extra.

I hear alot of rationalizing in your post. The fact of the matter is, Murphy's Law will always strike.

If you feel piece-of-mind is worth about $4320 (just doing quick math), then go for it. But, that does seem a little high. However, it does cost more to get an extended warranty on 'used' cars, so maybe I'm wrong and that is a pretty good deal. But for me, that doesn't sound low enough.

just my $.02

Default I think I would have a long talk with your uncle before I forked over that amount. Yikes!!!

I'm guessing he is making a lot more on the warranty than the sale of the car.

Yea, you guys are right...I THOUGHT that was expensive...Although, this is my FIRST car purchase ever and I didn't know what's what. To be fair, my uncle owns the dealership, but I've actually been negociating with his sales manager (who was the one insisting I get the warranty because his g-friend has an A4, and in his experience, it would be wellworth it...He kept insisting that he's not making money on it, but I was suspicious since he said I could only purchase their warranty offer when purchasing the car, not later..I wasn't sure if that was to work the warranty into the financing). Anyone recommend any warranties in particular? I'm paying 20K flat for this car...According to the sales manager, they spent $700 to have the car fully checked out and as of now, it is in perfect shape except for a modulator that needed to be replaced (the alarm had to be changed and the keys were responding to the OLD alarm, or at least that's what he told me)...He also mentioned that his "job was on the line"...So I'm sure he'll make sure the car at least starts out OK...I think they purchased it at an auto auction, I havent done car fax...I also haven't seen the car in person...It's being shipped to me from the midwest to the west coast...I also don't know how to drive stick outside of a quiet parking lot! I'm insane! But I did test drive an '02 TT with 225hp and it was fun! THANKS again everyone!

Default have you checked kbb.com for the car's value?

Also, take what car salesmen/women say with a grain of salt. They are there to sell things and make a profit.

Default Try this approach:...

You were supposedly willing to spend $4300 or $60 per month on the warranty. Take that money and bank it every month. If in two years your running in the negative numbers you can consider selling the car. You wouldn't really be at a huge risk unless something major happened in the first year and even then you could expense it out using a credit card and it would still be less than the warranty.

You should run the numbers by your uncle. He'll know if the salesman is full of it.
