aftermarket headunit/bose compatibility
1. is it true that all i need to make any aftermarket headunit work with the bose system is the metra harness, euro antenna adapter and faceplate frame?
2. what is this business about a 5v preamp output? the pioneer deh-7700mp is only a 2.2v preout. will this work? what does this mean? can i only use headunits that have a 5v preamp output? any suggestions on a diffrent headunit?
3. last time i attempted to have this done the geniuses at best buy said that putting a headunit would be impossible without getting new speakers. they said it had something to do with the diffrent ohms. will the metra harness definitly fix this, since im planning on doing everything myself this time
all i really want is to have an aftermarket headunit so that i can perhaps install one 10' subwoofer in the back and an amplifier, and possible hook up my ipod as well.
any info or tips is greatly appreciated, thanks again for the help!
2. Most headunits have 2v preouts, but some of the higher end units have 5v preouts. A 5v preout gives you a stronger/cleaner low level signal. My alpine 9851 is 2v and it sounds great.
3. You can switch the headunit and leave everything else. The sound will be improved dramatically. The Bose speakers are rated at 2ohm, whereas most aftermarket speakers are 4ohm. If you decide to change the speakers, I would suggest you replace the Bose amp.
