FYI: fuel gauge prob and fix...

Problem: fuel gauge would go way past full when I filled up the tank and would show 1/4 of a tank left when empty.

To Fix the problem the dealer decided it wasn't the sender and replaced the whole instrument cluster. Seemed drastic to me but what do I care it's under warranty.

Anyways just thought I'd post since I'm unsure if this is a common problem.

I had the instrument cluster replaced on my B5 S4 as well but for another problem not related to the fuel gauge or any other gauge for that matter.

Cleaned my primary sender a few months back. Problem solved...>>

other have tried Techron for a few fillups and fixed the problem.

They replaced my cluster also - and then replaced the senders 2 weeks later when it was still broken

It's been a week and so far and the gauge works fine but I'll watch it.

I have the exact same symptoms right now....

...Two treatments with Techron haven't helped at all yet. The "miles to empty" and fuel light are still accurate, which leads me to believe it is the fuel gauge in the cluster itself. Too bad they have to replace the whole cluster, but good thing it's still under warranty.
