Ms. Jack has a question...
Jack's been out of commission for a couple of weeks, but he is allowing me to use his precious laptop for a short time to get assistance on a critical question. We are the "virtual" original owners of a 2000TT - paid for! Where we live, the days are already hitting 90+ degrees regularly. About two weeks ago the TT's AC - normally about the temp of a meat locker - went out. I finally had the chance to get the local dealership (not where we purchased the car) to check it, and learned that the AC system is recirculating metal flakes - among other problems - and will cost me about $1800 in repairs. My questions: has any one else experienced similar problems with TTs of similar age? Is there the chance the dealer is stringing me along?

I would suggest getting the diagnosis, parts to be ordered, and labor estimate from the shop - in writing.
Then take the car to another dealer for a 'second opinion'
The price seems a little out of the norm. but it may be mostly labor costs.

Ms. Jack says that is all a good idea - will get it in writing and keep driving the A6 Quattro loaner from the dealer. Jack says "peaceout" QS. He is on a very tough journey right now, but progressing nicely.

Ms. Jack treasures her wheels like some treasure their 65 1/2 Mustangs...I've got nearly 74K MI on it now, and everything else is doing well - more or less.

Not too many AC problems that I've heard...
At least does not seem to be a common issue. I've had nearly every common "known issue" with my TT--and then some--but AC seems to work fine. I have a 2001 QC.

Re: I bought my 2000 3 years ago and it had a bad A/C.. dealer replaced before I took possession.
What's really annoying me is the dealer has a notoriously bad reputation with our family of Audis - who knows why; quite possibly because we insist on excellent service. This is the second time something major has gone wrong 2-3 weeks after service; the first time was with our A6 when brake fluid mysteriously appeared in the power steering fluid tank.
