Default Bad Cluster

Greetings. First time poster but not new to the forum. To make a long story short, I was just informed by the dealer today that I have a bad cluster (2001 225QR)and they want over $1,100 to replace it. I have searched through the forum and noticed that there are a few posts regarding having the cluster remanufactured at BBA from a few months ago. I was wondering if anyone has had this done recently and what the results were. Also if there were any updates from those who had it done from previous posts. $250 is a lot easier to deal with than $1,100 if BBA can do the job.

Default What exactly is your cluster doing or not doing?

Have you done any electrical work that may have called for disconnecting the battery?

My date and time were reseting along with the trip meter. Eventually everything failed in the cluster and the car would not start anymore. I had read that it may be the battery so I replaced it. Still had failure on the cluster. I left the key in the ignition with the door open and I was getting this buzzing sound every 10 - 20 secs. All of a sudden the cluster came to life again and I was able to start the car. That's when I drove it right to the dealership.

Default Ok, I had some wierd issues similar to that. >>>

But I did a search and found that you should try pulling the #11 and # 15 fuses. I believe those are the numbers. Just look on the back side of the cover and pull the two that say cluster. Pull the fuses for like 1 minute, stick them back in, then turn your car on and let it sit there for 3 minutes while your ECU adapts. Remember don't touch anything when you turn the car on. After 3 minutes, start the car and go for a little drive. That should help.

Tried that. Pulled the fuses, waited and put them back in. Car would start and run for 1 sec before cutting out just like before. The cluster never came back on even after pulling the fuses.

Default Now.....did you do this when you still had your bad battery?

My battery was in Horrible condition when this happened also. It was just a coincidence as well. But I bought a new battery and reset the fuses and haven't had a single problem yet.

I suggest if you haven't done this with your new battery, that you try again.

I think the battery may have been the original so it was pretty bad. And yes, I did try this after the new battery. Believe me, I tried everything. The last thing I wanted to have is a bad cluster.
