Freon question......
the A/C is running fine but i am parnoid esp after knowing my old car almost completely ran out of freon (after 8 years)
so here is my question
1. how often do you check if your freon level is 'OK'
2. how do you check it??
PS the A/C is blowing cold.....it gets cooler when you drive (of course) but even at idle...is pretty cold (outside temp is at 70-80s)

Dont worry about the freon, just give it a recharge when it stops blowing cold. >>>
I have a very small leak in one of my freon lines and I recharged it yesterday. It lasted 2 years with the same charge, and i dont plan fixing that right now. I charged it because it stop blowing cold.

In fact, your car does not use "freon"....
Freon is a common name used for R-12 refrigerant. Your car, like all TT's and most cars made after 1992, uses R-134a refrigerant. If your A/C is blowing cold, your refrigerant level is fine. If you're worried about bad things happening when the refrigerant gets too low.... don't. The system has built-in pressure switches. If the pressure in the system gets too low because of a leak, the compressor will not run, and you won't get any cool air in the passenger compartment. Then you know to get the leak fixed and the system recharged.
