Question re: Temp guage reading

so I finally took my car into the dealership to get the temperature guage looked at again, my suspicion was the guage cluster again as the thermostat was changed to the green one not too long ago.

anyways, the temp guage goes up to almost the 3/4 mark as the engine gets hotter when i'm stopped at a red light. the dealership says that this is normal, i'm not so sure about this as they replaced the thermostat when i complained of this several months ago and the problem appeared fixed.

Not, it's not. Mine doesn't do that w/temps well over 100 >

I'm guessing you may have a cooling fan out; the driver's side. Other option is the water pump - have you had the timing belt changed ever? Usually you replace the wp then; if not it's also possible the pump's failing.
There's an A/C readout to get accurate engine temps, try that and see what it says; also, does the temp drop when the A/C's on? Is the A/C cold, or not?

i have less than 30K miles, i'll try checking with the A/C on.

the A/C appears to be functioning normally. A/C readout??

actually, code 49 is the one you want (it's mis-labeled), but 51 gets close. This will give you engine coolant temps in celsius - 80-90 is ok, 100's still ok but you're getting on up there, and 103 - 110 does mean you might have a problem, esp after just normal driving, sitting in traffic.<ul><li><a href="http://www.wak-tt.com/tt/climatecontcodes.htm">http://www.wak-tt.com/tt/climatecontcodes.htm</a</li></ul>
