2001 225HP TT

I woke up this morning to go to work only to find that the car wouldn't start. It starts for maybe a half second and then dies. Any thoughts BTDT?

what do you mean it starts for 1/2 second?

Do you have a VAG tool? Has the car been sitting long? You sure it actually runs for that 1/2 second? Could be a million things IMHO. You will either need a knowledgeable friend or a VAG tool. I would start by looking at ignition and fuel components. Can also be ECU, t-belt, cam sensor and a million other things. You should VAG it.

Need more input. As maaliish has said, there could be a number of things.

Does it sputter and die, or does it act like you've turned it off?

Does your car have an immobilizer (some '01s do and some do not -- you'll know by a light on the dash board)? I've heard of those going funky and causing such problems on several VW's.

What happens when you shut it off and then restart it? Same thing?

I don't have a vag tool. I parked the car Sat. and went to start it this morning and it starts just long enough to know it tried, but it doesn't matter how much gas peddle is added it won't keep running. Where is the best place to get a Vag tool. Ebay? I'm used to old audis with CIS.
