Dumped in my first bottle of Techron yesterday- interesting results...

Well I ran the car for a good 30 miles or so, and everything was totally fine, and normal, car seems to be running real good- it was running real good before though. I decided to do this, since my gauge was reading 0 miles to empty and I was AT the first line of empty- like 1/6th to 1/8th left. Was surprised cause normally that would show me something like 30 miles left. Been that way for a while now.

Any ways, after the bottle of techron went in my gauge started going crazy. Along with the miles to empty display- they seemed to be in sync though. It was jumping between 200 miles and 3/4th tank, to full and 250 miles, etc. You could watch the gauge jump, and the miles to empty would change with it. Never had the gauge jump like that before. You think this is a good thing- cleaning the sensor, etc? Was just surprised to see it act like that.

It has not done the jump deal again after that, all seems fine, but I do not watch it all the time. It just happened when I started my car yesterday, and continued for a good 10 minutes or so. I let the car just sit at idle (outside of the garage ;-)) for about 10 minutes and watched. Anyone else have this happen to them?

that was the scenerio I had for which I used Techron! LOL

It was a dirtly fuel level sender. The techron cleaned it up and everything was good after that.

Make sure your gas cap is on tight.. any more fluctuation and it will likely overflow

Been there many times before . . .

Do the gas stations in your area use re-formulated gasoline? I seem to encounter this problem whenever I get this stuff when travelling in the Northeast or when I have to get fuel in Louisville, KY. Fortunately, I haven't had the problem since my warranty expired (knock on wood). While in-warranty, I had several clusters replaced as well as fuel gauge sending units. Marty, the head Audi service rep at the dealer in Louisville said there was a problem with a chemical in the RFG reacting with the sending unit and that the problem also occurred with M-B cars as well. Whenever possible, I run Chevron fuel as it already has the Techron stuff in it and I usually throw a bottle of Techron in the fuel tank with each oil change. I also try to avoid RFG too. I hope the Techron takes care of your problem or you are still under warranty.
