Default Do i have a cooling system issue? experts please HELP!

coolant temp sensor has been going off in my dash for a month now on start up in the moring. when i checked the coolant level it was fine. well it has now been going off at every start up. so i check the coolant level and it was below MIN. so while cold this moring i added about 3-4 ounces of spring water to bring it to the right level. when i started the car and then checked it was below MIN again (shouldnt the level have gone up instead of down when i started the car) so i quickly added another 3-4 ounces of water to bring it to the right level. drove about 8 miles and checked. the coolnat was in the same spot (within the right range). drove another 8 miles and checked, the coolnat was now above the indicated highlighted area on the coolant resivior container. also noticed that when on side streets the temp gauge was right in the middle but on the highway it would drop down a tick toward colder. it has never done that in my car. the temp gauge was always pegged in the middle regardless of driving style. do i have a possible cooling issue?

Default Keep checking that coolant level to make sure you're not dropping coolant.

Its not normal for the coolant to just "burn out". If your level drops - you have a leak. MAKE SURE that you check the level when the car is leveled and cold. You need the same reference point for every check. Whent he car is warm, the level will go up, its normal. When the car is cold the level will drop to its "normal/cold" state. The temp gauge can move around the middle, as in slightly below (at speed) or slightly above when the car is standing. If it goes over the middle, your car should bring it back to the center by turning on the fans.

Default one more thing...what is the mileage on the car? If you are close to or above 60Kmiles, your

waterpump might be causing the leak. If thats the case...better fix it ASAP cause that little waterpump can break your engine

Default agree! and also: "drops down a tick toward colder".... is caused by a sticking thermostat

The only remedy is a new stat

Default Check the waterpump to make sure there are no leaks around the seal. If there are leaks,

change it ASAP along with the belts and tensioner pulley. Actually, even if its not leaking you should do this service. Its good insurance.

Default i am moving to the new york area and was hoping to put it off another 7000-10000 miles just incase..

i am moving to the new york area in JULY and was hoping to put it off another 7000-10000 miles just incase..i might not really need a car there. i have to live there and scope it out first. it would be a waste to do that huge job$$$ and sell the car a month later. do you think it will hold out? im only at around 57000 miles now.

Default I wouldn't....

The $800 you spend now will make the car that much more desirable when you sell it..
