Default Can someone please tell me what the purpose for this vent or flap is for?

I was thinking of a mounting location for either a Blitz or Apexi turbo timer since I have a 2000 that needs some cooling down time but I am not sure what the purpose for that vent is and if it is needed.

I also have no clue what that flap above the mirror is for but to me it would seem like just something to block more sunlight from hitting my eyes???

Thanks

to block the sun from shining in above the rear view mirror and below the roof.

Default Vent is interior motion sensor for alarm. Flap is extra sunshield.

My 2003 does not have the flap and I miss it!

Default thanks, cause I just did a search and came up with four answers....>>>

1) motion sensor for alarm
2) hidden mic for phone
3) temp interior sensor
4) part of air filter system

Flap was replaced in '02 (?) with HomeLink buttons. It is a useless (IMO) sun blocker.

Default >>It is a useless (IMO) sun blocker.<< Rubbish!

I disagree- I use it quite often, works like a charm and I wish other cars had it. My gepgraphic position of 10 degrees N of the equator may mean its more useful than where you are (??anyone??) but for, it works great. Just another thoughtful touch that the TT has and that distinguishes it from the slew of rubbish cars out there.

Default Well, I am 6' 2", and I have a roadster. The sun would need to be under the horizon for this to

block it. For me, it is useless (hence the IMO, which is In My Opinion, and by default is not "rubbish" - IMO!)...

FWIW, my wife's '01 Passat has this "visor" as well. She is 5' 2", and also finds it useless.

None of this is to say it is useless to everyone, clearly you are fond of it, and that's great!
