Hello, My name is Jeff, and I'm an Idiot. NOW!, with Full Confession Inside
For `tis I have made a Classic Blunder.
I never closely inspected this freakin' hose.
This problem only affects '00-02 225 cars. They fixed this on the 03's (right?)
After spring cleaning and detailing, I noticed this area was getting more dirty, sooner.
The hose was more flexible.
I finally decided to invest in some decent SS clamps from McMaster before I tackled the job.
Tonight, it's been hot and muggy here, and the garage is steamy from a cooling engine.
I have 2 fans going to cool the car.
This was an actual pic of this vac. hose about 4 years ago.

This is the OEM part in question.
The bottom hose section here is simply a pass-thru, or big rubber clamp. Another tube and crimp clamp goes on each end of a metal tube that goes through it. The tip two ports facing to the back connect 2 tubes, it the oddest arrangement.

It fails right here.
The split got worse.

With some silicone hose, like this, 5/8" or 16-17mm, and these 1/2" wide Stainless Smooth Band clamps., I routed the bottom hose 180 degrees by following this radius. Anything smaller would not fit in the space under the IC pipe, and it would kink the hose in the middle.

The top hose simply connects back on the tube here.

This is the IC piping back in place, the new hose wraps around like the other one. Tie-wrapped in to place

This makes a huge difference in over-all response.
I don't know why this type of vac. leak would not through a code.
I'm embarrased to tell you, yes, I could tell something was off ,but really the car was running well, just a whole lot better now.
Wow.
OK, like Hey!, all you that have this that have not checked this, do it now.
All those asking about what to look for in older TT's, ask and look for this problem.
Get the silicon hose sampler kit from hosetecqniques, and other smooth-band and T-bar clamps from McMaster. They ship in 2 days.
I'm gonna have fun driving tomorrow and try not to kick my butt too hard.

Well I found it, but have since gotten a factory replacement. And will soon not need it with the Dahlback mani and Del Rio Stg 3 kit. So if anyone wants it for the good of the group let me know and I'll send it out.
