Default 2 Quirky issues - Starting & Windows

I just called and scheduled a service because of 2 issues that have been occurring, and I wanted to run them past you guys to see if the diagnosis that comes back from the stealership is on-track. (I'm still under warranty, so I'm not gonna sweat it, but I'd like to get this right on the first shot, instead of 3 visits later :^)

Issue 1 - Intermittent

Trying to start the car (after it has sat overnight) it goes through excessive cranking. One of two things happens next:

1) It doesn't start at all. I turn the key back, and try a 2nd time and it fires right up.

OR

2) It starts but sputters and dies after a few seconds. I turn the key a second time and it fires right up

Issue #2 - Intermittent

I unlock the car, open the door and the window drops opens slightly as it's supposed to. I shut the door and the window closes as it should. Immediately after it closes, it opens again (about an inch) and stays open until I manually close it. This happens on both the driver and passenger side.

Any help you guys can give is, as always, much appreciated.

Default Unfortunately, mio amigo, intermittent problems NEVER show themselves .......

at the dealership. The dealer will just tell you "everything is working just fine". This is a corollary of one of Murphy's law. I've had the same issue #2 as you but it has gone away on its own so I have no idea.
Sorry,
BlueChip

Default maybe this

the starting problem might be a fuel pump problem or a clogged injector. Try running some injector cleaner through the gas tank. As for the fuel pump, when you turn the key, wait till the screen says OK before you crank it over, this means the car is ready to start. with the window, my car has the same problem, comes and goes. I saw it with a roadster i was looking at, and it started happening with my car. I havent figured it out yet, but if i do i'll let you know. It might have something to do with the window convenience feature, try turning it off and on again using the window switch, (search the forum for the directions i forget how to do it). Hope this helps!

Default 2nd issue: try the window reset procedure. Also search for "window reset" for more links.

1) Probably fuel pump not getting fuel forward fast enough on first try. There was a post on this recently.

2) Your window is an independent thinker. If it were a dog, it would be a Borzoi. It would know what to do, but would only do it when it felt like it.

Default They are Quirky but consistently so :-)

I too have the occasional hard start. Mine however can be hot or cold. Seems flooded (remember carburators? ) when it does crank. Requires a bit of throttle to get it to fire off. Happens once or twice a week. ?????????
Another quirk many have had is the "lock- light bug" where the interior light fails to go out. I had that occasionally but strangely it stopped happening when I replaced my battery.
Somehow this stuff becomes tolerable when we read that others have the same occurances and no one can explain why. Kind of like visiting a haunted house. ;-)

Default Starting issue: Turn on the key (don't start yet), wait for the "OK" in the dash, then start.

Your fuel pump needs a second or two to pressurize the line.

Default Re: 2 Quirky issues - Starting & Windows

I very occasionally have a similar issue with the windows upon starting the car. The only difference being that I have to cycle the car off and on in order to close the windows fully. And, once it begins happening, it will occur a couple of times a day until I "cure" it.

The cure? Oddly, driving the car VERY hard (but safely) for a short stretch of time gets rid of the issue for many months. Specifically, driving it in such a way that ABS is forced to kick in. Seriously. I'm guessing that doing this causes some sort of overarching software reset. But who knows? The fact that such a critical safety system appears to be connected to such an utterly trivial "feature" seems dubious at best. But the tactic nevertheless works 100% of the time. Go figure...
