Default ok before i learn any bad habits advice on driving a manual...

i get the general idea but whats the best for the tranny etc. (ie: down-shifting to a stop rather than coasting with clutch in).

Default coasting is fine. Downshifting is really not required but if done properly is fine.

Many ride the clutch and that is a bad habit.

Default speed matching the clutch and flywheel is always good>>>

i call it double clutching...but seeing as the tranny is synchromesh....it is not really needed.

Default Yup...Brakes are cheaper than clutches!

I always double clutch, rev match and downshift though....Old habits from the early (MG non-syncro) days...:-)

Default Double clutch...

The last time I heard "double clutch" was when Dom was yackin at spilner on the fast and the furious....

What exactly is it. I never downshift... hah I'm actually bad at it... when I do have to downshift I rev it up to match the RPM's though.

Default Thats the way it should be :) allthough if you are lets say at 5K RPM and you want to slow down,

I would suggest keeping it in a gear til RPMs drop to say 2.5-3K and then coasting down in neutral.

Default just as it sounds. You engage the clutch, take it out of gear...let go of clutch, engage the clutch

again and put it into gear. Basically every time you take it out of gear or put it into gear you engage the clutch.

Default And if you REV match (Blip the throttle) on the Clutch release..>>>

As you pass through neutral there will be little to no wear on the syncros, and the engagement, as the engine is once again connected to the trans, will be super smooth if you do it right..It's such a force of habit for me, I almost can't downshift without doing this...

The 3.2 guys have a small German fella inside the computer that does this for their lazy buTTs....:-)
