Default ARGGG It never ends! Just got off the phone with the service mgr from VW

who is doing my alignment. A long, long story but I had had a new clutch installed about two weeks ago, and somehow the alignment got screwed up. I went back (twice) to the shop that did the clutch, and they ended up replacing one tie rod and a wheel bearing (charging for parts only, no labor) and said that they got the car back into alignment.

Well I've been driving it for two weeks since then, and the alignment still feels just slightly off. It's close, but I want it to be perfect (which it was before the clutch job. I don't know what those guys did, if anything, to cause that).

So I took the car to a VW dealer near my office this morning for a complete, four-wheel alignment for $150. The service manager just called and said the right side camber is slightly out of spec, causing the car to pull slightly to the right, which results in steering slightly to the left. However, they can't get the car back into alignment because--THE LEFT SIDE TIE ROD IS COMPLETELY SEIZED! DAMMIT. They tried and tried and it absolutely will not budge, and they don't want to mess up anything else in trying to get it off. So they have to order a new "tie rod assembly" and replace the whole damn thing, and THEN try and get the car into alignment. That's another $366.08.

At what point do I throw in the towel? ****ing car.

Default HALT!!! Try this first.....

Best stuff evAr. I had nuts/bolts on the Landcruiser that were basically "welded" after 13 years of service. SOAK the threaded portion of the tierod with this for at least 30 min or so, overnight if you've got the time. Then give it a shot. If this won't break it loose, it may indeed be welded! ;-)

Should be able to pick it up at most auto parts stores (Napa), or some hardware stores. Freakin' awesome stuff. And no, WD40 and all that other crap just doesn't do the same. Not sure what makes this stuff work, but it works.

Teh PB Blaster
