Default Huh? Spacers are dangerous?? according to Tire Rack...

...they are. I wanted to order the Rial Daytona, but it is only listed as fitting the 1.8, not the 3.2. A guy there said that it probably didn't fit over the calipers. I asked if spacers would take care of it, and he told me that Tire Rack doesn't sell spacers because they are dangerous. He gave me the impression that the different stresses caused by the spacer could snap a wheel off. Has anyone heard of problems caused by spacers?? Is this a real concern?

of course they are. They wear out wheel bearings too.

Yes. Having wheels with correct offset and no spacers is preferable.

Default many track junkies use spacers all day long

and i have yet to hear of a failure. i suppose it's possible if you botched the fitment, e.g. by using the wrong bolts.

Default misleading. offset matters; spacers are just a away to get there.

we've had this discussion before. there is no difference on bearings between an ET25 wheel and an ET35 wheel with a 10mm spacer.

Technically, they're dangerous, but nearly everyone on the forum runs 'em.

Default only preferable because it's easier to remove/install. no other difference. in fact ...

a number of custom wheel manufacturers actually permanently affix spacers to their centers in order to provide custom offsets.

Default Well they do put more stress on the wheel bearings ...

which can be dangerous. It's not like you're going to be driving one day and everything's going to fall off, though. ;-)

Default Do the engineering calculations....>>>

Spacers shift weight outboard, put extra stress on wheel bearings, require longer bolts and put an additional shear dividing line into the equation because of the extra line between spacer and hub. If wheel bolts directly to hub, there is one shear line. If there is a spacer there are two shear lines.

Geebus, I learned about that stuff back in High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1958 when my older brother was a hotrodder before he went into the Airforce.

If you want to run spacers, go ahead, but please do not insult the sciences of math and physics by saying there is no difference other than removal and installation.
