Default Curbed my left, rear wheel beyond belief today...

I have a 3.2 TTR with the RS4 wheels. While they look nice, they offer zero protection against curbing (unlike the concave 5 spoke alloys which have a rim saver feature).

Anyway, I was visiting our downtown office, about to enter the underground parking structure. After I took the ticket, there was an immediate very hard left. As most of you know, the TT has very high doors and you have limited visibility down low, so I was unaware that there was a really big curb in an unexpected place.

The grinding noise was just horrible and there was nothing I could do but keep driving. All 360 degrees of that wheel is now curbed to ****e and I think it was a couple of full revolutions to boot.

I think that there is some sort of "wheel king" service that Audi uses (or something like that), so I guess it's time to give them a call. Live and learn.

Default I hear you (in sympathy) . . .

Nothing like the sound of alloy against concrete to ruin your day. Very grating. I have the 7-spoke 18s on my 3.2 and am constantly paranoid. You're right about the poor sightlines. Potholes, curbs . . . they're out to get us. Maybe it's time for curb feelers to make a comeback. Good luck with the repair. Think I remember seeing a couple of posts not too long ago about a repair service (sounded like a national franchise operation) that did excellent work. Hope you don't end up having to replace the wheel!

Default I would suggest to get a new rim from Clair Parts or another supplier and...>>

keep the curbed one for a spare in case of a flat.

I just put new tires on my 3.2 TTQC. I am seriously considering getting a third Replica and tire from Hartmann and keeping it in one of those vinyl bags in the hatchback. That way AAA can change the tire for me on the spot when they make the service call.

Default I feel for you.. I curbed both my right sides on an unfamiliar corner earlier in the week

I should be able to smooth them out with the dremel this weekend.. I just caught the lips, so unless you look real close it isn't noticeable.
