Default My Audi dealer claims my shocks should be fine even after 80k miles, lol

I gave in today and brought my TT in to have the 6-year-old recall suspension work done on it. Everyone in the service department claimed that the recall did *not* involve new control arms - just shocks, springs, and sway bars. I told them that that it *did* involve control arms and that if they were going to change them, then I wanted to keep my old control arms. In the past, Audi has required all the old parts from the recall to be sent back, but they said they would try and keep them for me (since the recall is so old). If Audi doesn't care, they'll just be thrown away, so they don't have a problem giving them back to me. I'll know more about it tomorrow.

They asked me if I cared so much about the control arms, why would I be having the recall work done. I was honest and told them that my shocks were completely gone (and well, it's a way to get free shocks - even if they are crappy ones, I can't afford to buy nice ones right now.) He told me that there is no way my shocks could be worn out after only 80k miles - and that it must that my tire pressure is too high and thats why it rides so roughly. And he blamed my bent rims and tire bubbles on low profile tires (not *that* low - they are 225/45 17"). Well, that pretty much contradicts everything I've ever read on the forum here. I believe you guys though - the dealer doesn't seem to have a clue.

I know pretty much everyone here is going to think I am an idiot for having the suspension recall work done, but the way I see it, I save $1100 by not having to pay to get the shocks replaced myself, and I get a whole new suspension for free! If I had the money, I'd get bilstein shocks, and probably aftermarket springs as well, but for now, I figure having this recall done is a small price to pay for getting new shocks.
