Default Just had my first encounter with Porsche's service department......

and surprisingly enough it was not as good as or on par with the Audi service department. The Audi service department would at least give me a ride home, and the Porsche service department would not. They have a shuttle van that only goes a few blocks to the metro station which is the opposite direction. Or obtion B which I took is get a cab. I expected more from Porsche given that they have recently been ranked one of the highest in customer satisfaction. I know some of you also have Porsches. Have you had better or worse service from them compared to Audi service?

The reason for my visit:
I have been driving my neighbors 911 Carrera 4 all week, and today at lunch the key got stuck in the ignition. Played with it for a few minutes and it finally released. Then went to put it back to check it and ofcourse the switch would not accept it. Called my roadside servie to get a locksmith to see if there was anything they could do and none of them would come because it is a Porsche. So I was going to have to have it towed to the dealer. I was not happy about that so I messed with it for a few minutes and was finally able to get it to work. The switch internals are the problem. The dealer stated that this is a common problem and they could fix it Monday. The quoted price for repair is approx $800. The same problem with an Audi would probably cost about the same, given they will have to recode the keys and labor on the install. Granted the ignition switch on the Porsche is in the dash not the steering column.

Oh...forgot to mention how long this would be ....thanks for listening.

Default My dealer covers both marques,

and the service experience is identical.

In this case it is one of the rare "good" dealers, but it helps that I had coincidentally developed a relationship with my service advisor outside of that realm.

Default In this area the dealers will always try to get away with the minimum. It is common...

I am not sure why I expected more from Porsche than Audi's service department. The sad part is that I was really looking to make my next car a 911, and it probably will still be a 911. At least now I know what to expect from them.

Default Actually, the switch is a common problem..>

Was done on my Boxster before I got it to the tune of $$477. The part that goes bad is the electrical part to the rear of the lock mechanism (which is the same as VW uses)...Actual part is cheap if you know what to do....
