Default Hey, kodeTT - you had this one nailed (KW-V1's) >

just popped the wheel and now that I know what to look for, I can see the cap seperated from the housing - thx! Now for the repair surgery...

Default excellent. i think KW had a bad batch. try using a little loctite and a pin spanner wrench.

you can buy a cheapo one from a bike shop...make sure you get one that is adjustable, so you can move the pins in and out. take the cap in to the hardware store or bike store so you can test it out.

also, don't forget to check the other side, if one is bad, most likely, the other side will give you problems down the road...could be that it is also coming loose. double check.

Default only one side was loose but >

nether side could seat the flange of the cap tight to the housing cylinder (the cylinder that contains the shock) - almost as if the shock inside were too long or the cylinder too short (by about a mm). Got things torqued with a spanner and used loctite, but need to continue to check on it since I'm not confident of the work, given the gap. Did your's have the condition I'm describing (probably don't remember and of course can't check since you've moved on to 3's - and for my part, lost my camera a few weeks ago so can't post a shot right now)?

Default believe it or not, they never really screwed on tight all the way...there was about 1/8"

when they were tightened all the way.

Default interesting design... >

it makes some sense when you think about it, to hold the shock tight, but you would think they'd solve that problem with a compressible seat, like a rubber bush at bottom and top inside the cylinder...

Default exactly. its a poor solution. i was 'shocked' to find that the stainless steel outer wasn't

really the shock itself, but just a housing for the insert.
