I drove on bad bearings for like 8K miles, then had them done along with other stuff

No, not "normal", but typical Audi. Our A4 has had both rears replaced twice in 4 years.

Symptoms were a low rumbling, (woa-woa-woa )increasing in volume with increasing speed>>

and increased volume going around curves. Initially left hand curves were worst, but later it just droned all the time. I suspected the bearing but it also almost sounded like a badly rumbling tire with a slight flat spot. Hope this helps

same bearing replace on my 99 A4 at 77k miles.
