Default Any hack directions available for changing lighter outlet power with key on...

My radar detector and ipod kill my battery after a day of non-use. At this point I'm think a new battery may be in order as well.

TIA
Jack

Have you considered hardwiring instead?

Default Run a switched power line...>

From the "75A" terminal on the bus bar under the left dash (requires dropping lower dash), right to the Cig. lighter. This terminal provides switched 12v. be sure to fuse the line and insure the lead you remove from the lighter socket is taped/insulated. Behavior modification therapy would work too and you could just turn the stuff off....:-)

Default It would be a faily simple "hack" to route *one* wire from the fuse box to this connector.

by *one* wire I mean the brown/ground wire is already present.
All you would need to do is to find the wire at the connector on the back of the ash tray, cut it, not the brown one, near the connector, splice a wire to it at that point, and run it back to the fuse box.

you'll need to drop the lowerdash, and remove the side panel, drivers side of the console under the radio/HVAC unit.
You can then get at the connector to the cig. lighter there, probably with out even removing the ash tray.

I'd say it's a 20 min. job, tops.
Easy.

Default Re: Thanks! How is the upper part of the lower dash unit held in place?????

I have most of it apart but the lower dash is still held in place at the top. I am attempting to get to the 75A bus bar you referred to in order to hardwire the radar unit as suggest below.
