Default Anyone ever get an exhaust leak up near the turbo?

Im getting this ticking sound right near the turbo. It's really driving me nuts, and I can't pinpoint it. It sounds like maybe a gasket with a tiny hole in it, but I cant see it. The ticking intensifies as the car is revved. It is present both at a stand-still and under load. I'm thinking that maybe it has to do with the 42DD install... maybe the bolts have loosened, but it doesn't LOOk like they have. Anyone ever have a similar problem?

Default ticking could be >>>

a cracked manifold if the bolt was pulled down too tight...sometimes they go away when they heat up...

Are you sure that is what you are hearing and not something like the fuel injectors?

Default I'm not certain, Hans. I'm going to pull the charge pipe tomorrow

so that I can get a better look at what's going on under there. I have an appointment to take the car in a week from Tuesday. I don't want to be having this problem for that long, but that's the soonest they can get me in there. Hopefully I can find out what the problem is in the meantime. I had the bonnet up today, and was revving the engine trying to pinpoint the location. It really seemed to be coming from under the charge pipe right above the turbo, which of course I couldn't really see. I did see what appeared to be exhaust fumes coming up from there, and I could definately smell exhaust coming from there. I could see the gasket where the DP joins the flex joint, and it was in good shape. I also looked real good at the o2 sensor, and it seemed to be screwed in properly, so that's not it either. I really hope I don't have a cracked manifold or bad injectors. A leaky gasket would be so much easier!

Default what hans said - also make sure nothing is chattering against anything >>

i had a ticking that intensified as the revs went up - it wound up being the dv vibrating against the strut brace. check for stupid stuff first!

Default Is it a constant ticking or seemingly random.

The injectors in my car seem to "tick" at a random pace - like there is no real timing associated with it. I'm not really sure if it's supposed to be that way or not. I would think that if was it a manifold type thing (hopefully not) the ticking would have more of a pattern to it. Maybe. It's also possible that I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I wanted to throw that out there.

Default It's constant, like a playing card in bicycle spokes.

It speeds up as the rpm's increase, whether under load or not.

Default No, it isn't anything like that. I swear it's an exhaust leak. We'll see.

Thanks for the help, guys.

Default It's probably the first flange connection. This is the hardest to tighten>>

gets the most heat, and the most abuse.

Mine's OK since day 1. I saw one local with this connection come loose. Tightened it up better than before and no problems since.
