Default Weird temp gauge thingy. Anyone know the deal?

After I start up the car I always wait until the temp gauge is at "noon" before I turn on the heat. Then, when I do turn on the heat, shortly after the needle drops one tick cooler...stays there for a minute...then goes back to noon. It never used to do this - started this winter. Should I be concerned? Any ideas?

Default could be the temp sensor...or>>>

a stuck thermostat...if it is open all the time the car will never warm right...

Check the temp via the HVAC to see where she is...could also be the first signs of a cluster failure....but let's not go there..

Default Don't say the "c" word...me no likey.

The temp sensor is well, kinda new. I put it in almost a year ago. Yes, the green one.

If the thermostat is going wacky, do you think that could also account for funky boost issues? I'll still try the new MAF first. How often does the thermostat needed to be changed? It was NOT done at 60K with the timing belt.

Default Everyone here uses the terminology "tick"

Do you mean it drops back all the way to the previous white line?

turning on the heat will remove some of the temp from the engine. Sounds normal to me.

Default Mine did this once this year on a very cold night, in the 20s.

I'm calling it either a fluke or a t-stat that's on its way out.
