from Tire Rack

I am planning on a track weekend every month or two but I want something that I can still live with every day. Some people say that this combo is a bit noisy and others say that they are quiet and fine. Does anybody on here have any experience with these products on their TT or any other suggestions.

Also, is it possible to do this kind of install myself or is there anybody in the San Fernando Valley that would want to help me? (I live in Sherman Oaks) It sounds like I would need a few specialized tools which I don't have.

Default It's not a bad install - with minimal tools you should be able to tackle it.

If you want some help, I am getting together with whodkne next Saturday in Valencia. Another TT in the driveway is usually welcome...

Default And how might this setup compare to a Brembo setup?

<a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&url=%2Fbrakes%2Fbrakes.jsp%3Fmake%3DBr embo%26model%3DSport%2BSlotted%2BRotor" target="_blank">Brembo High Performance Sport Slotted Rotors</a>

These are cheaper than the above setup, but are they equivalent?

If you plan to track that often, just go for the BBK

all that you need to install front pads and rotors is a handful of metric box wrenches and a set of channel locks to push the pistons back. with a beer brake it should take an hour...

Default you could just swap in track pads before events.... takes 30 mins

even if you aren't mechanically inclined, just takes some practice.

I run HP Plus pads on the track but there's no way I could use them on the street... too much noise.

i bought some for my last car and after one hard braking session they warped and i had to replace them... they lasted about 3,000 miles. i wouldnt do it. zimmerman or someone else, maybe even frozen rotors, but just not powerslot.

Default Comment- Easy install; however, try as you will it won't work...

I've been there and done that as several on this forum will attest the factory caliper/rotor size just can't dissapate the heat generated on the track. If you track once a month it won't be long before you realize you have to have the BBK. How many offs are needed due to brake fade/failure before the BBK is worth it?

If you do go for minor upgrades, note that I had a set of hawk blues dissenigrate on the track.

An interim until you BBK would be the brass inserts for the calipers, metal brake lines, RBF 600, dedicated track pads(hawk blue/PFC01,etc), Brembo Cadium slotted.

If your interested I still have my front metal lines, brass caliper pieces, and Brembo Slotted. However, I can't stress enough that it won't make you happy long term.

Default I agree with TTransport. I started with stock sized brakes and they faded badly, went to boxster

calipers on stock rotors, didnt' fade, but the pads wore quickly, now I've got stoptechs. I could have saved a lot of money just going to stoptechs in the first place.

I know one guy who did just fine with stock brakes, but the rest of his car was also stock no chip even. All he added was R compounds and he started out drivign his brakes.

And honestly it isn't even a matter of the stock brakes not working, it's the lack of consistancy and that awful feeling coming into a turn at 120mph wondering if your brakes will work "this time".

Default How many Brake related Offs did you have before your BBK?

Or a better stat would be, How many seconds faster did your lap time improve after your BBK?
