Default well since it's snowing here in sunny rochester, discussion time>

i would like to poll the audience:

those of you who have or have driven regularly both, a torsen AWD and haldex AWD, how would you compare it in the snow, furthermore, how would you compare it for snow drifting, if that's your bag. Would you consider it easier to maneuver a torsen or a haldex?

i'd like to see what becomes of this.

i'd have to say that it's much easier to control an A4 with torsen AWD, than my TT, but the TT is still pretty easy to get sideways in the snow.

Default I can only comment on the A4...

my tt is fwd so it does not count. the A4 handles extreamly well and it is very hard for me to get it going sideways, oh how I have tried.

Default I would think (pure conjecture, though) that the Torsen would be more predictable, unless

you go Orange on the Haldex. Being software controlled, I would think you can't count on/predict the Haldex power transfer as well as with the Torsen.

Default hmmmm..

i definitely had the A4 sideways last night. without really trying either, crank the wheel a little bit and goose it, youll notice your direction changes accordingly

Default i would say the torsen is more predicatble. you always know when the car will rotate

with haldex (and a stock module), depending on wheelspin it decides how much back end ill need in a corner, so you need to give it more in the beginning to trick it into throwing all 50% into the back... i have noticed however that as soon as i'm sideways, the AWD is kicked in full force and stays that way untill either i hit the clutch, the brake, or the e brake...

Default tip tronic + nokian Hakkapeliitta

grip and control but not as much fun
what kind of tires does he have. I have the nokian Hakkapeliitta and those grip like a mother. plus it is a tip, so no clutch action to dump it to get it to go sideways. But don't get me wrong, it will go sideways, I just really need to make exagerated movements with the wheel and pedal.

Default has dunlop wintersport M3s

and it can get sideways with no clutch action at all!

throw it in 2nd or 3rd on a nice snowy lot and jerk the wheel one way, then the other, then floor it, i would be willing to bet you spin around and around.

i have hakkepalittas on my TT and it's ballin. sucha good winter car..

Having driven the A4, A6 and TT with snow tires on all, Torsen AWD is much better than Haldex
